Instead of using chemical methods to combat forest pests natural enemies are fostered. Owls and bats in particular, devour copious amounts of the damaging insects. For this reason old tree stumps in the plantation- areas are kept as well as little huts with fly-in holes so that the ceilings can be used as birdhouses.
